Great advice Melaine. One of my biggest frustrations with candidates is if they don't ask any questions. It shows me they really have not prepared for the interview, and more importantly, don't know enough to make an informed decision about whether or not they should accept a potential offer.

Dress appropriately. On camera, this generally means foregoing the all-white shirt. It's going to reflect light and may make your face look washed out.

Job interview is an essential prerequisite before one is actually appointed on a position. One should be very well prepared before appearing for a job interview.

Hi Mel, these are good foundational suggestions.

How about considering this one as well: add value by staying true to your own values.

In other words, be an ethical employee and use integrity to make yourself a trusted, reliable staff member. Doing the right thing not only builds your reputation in positive, meaningful ways, it also protects your employer from risk, and sets a great example for others.

Good question, I resist the typical non committal response of "it depends on the job" and say, give me a team of good people and I'll make them great.

Thanks for your response John, and thanks for distinguishing the need for methodology in sourcing. I agree that for sourcing nailing down the science is crucial, but recruiting is very much a sales role where soft skills mark the difference between average and above average.

Statistics and volume require recruiters to utilise the 'science' of X-Raying, Boolean search, networking and communicating. To become a true professional artist, one needs to learn and apply the science to build sufficient volume to practice the art. Not everyone will become or is a Recruiting/Staffing Artist, many only attain the level of Sourcer - applying the science to deliver volume without regard for final successful outcome, the Sourcer never develops the art of screening and digging deep to secure the non-tangible qualities/qualifications - only the tangible.

Good point. Successful recruiters will have mastered the process but what distinguishes them from the mediocre masses are their innate abilities.
